Waipukurau is found on the East Coast of the North Island, it is the largest town in the Central Hawke’s Bay District. Known locally as Waipuk or Ypuk the town is located 50 kilometres south-west of Hastings on the banks of the Tukituki River. Tukituki River is teeming with Rainbow and Brown trout, where frequent fishers come to access this extensive area. Waipukurau boasts active gliding and hot air ballooning for flying enthusiasts and lovers of sky-high views. The Central Hawkes Bay Aero club began in 1935; they hold the National Aerobatics Champs and hold a fleet of planes, including a DH82 Tiger Moth.

 

Visitors to Waipukurau can experience a range of different types of accommodation from farm stay’s, to coastal estates, all catering to your budget. Wander through historic homesteads Mt Vernon and Woburn; try a round of golf, stroll through private gardens, the Taniwha Daffodil Farm in September is a sight to behold. Feeling peckish? Pop into one of many cafes and restaurants. As a note, the Latitude Cafe is well known for their delicious lunch, dinner, desserts and cafe fare. With a population of 4,000, this large town is well worth exploring.
