Things to do in Nelson Lakes

Whether you have a couple of hours to spare or several days, daywalkers of all ages and abilities can choose from a variety of different walks, ranging from 1-5 hours. For the more experienced hikers, Lake Angelus is a popular 3-day loop, as is the Travers-Sabine Circuit. This 4-7 day walk will take you across an alpine pass, soaring mountains, clear rushing streams, and remote lake scenery. Weather conditions are most favourable between October and May, although Poukirikiri/Travers Saddle is known for freezing conditions year-round. The huts along these tracks are another first come, first served basis - so come prepared to sleep in your own tent if you have to.
