Explore Auckland Zoo

Home to over 135 species, 1400 animals, and containing the largest diversity of wildlife in New Zealand, Auckland Zoo is a must-visit on any trip to The City of Sails.

A 16.35 hectare zoological garden situated next to Western Springs Reserve not far from downtown Auckland, there is plenty to do and see year-round. With behind-the-scenes experiences, events, keeper talks, and Safari Nights, a visit to Auckland Zoo is a fun and educational experience for every age group.

Experiences

Auckland Zoo hosts a range of experiences for every type of budding animal enthusiasts out there. Choose to have a behind-the-scenes experience with the capybara & squirrel monkeys, the red pandas, the galápagos tortoises, the meerkats, the giraffes, or join the Auckland Zoo team and become a carnivore keeper for a day.

If you’re more of a night owl, take a Safari Night tour and see the animals by twilight on a guided night walk, enjoy a BBQ at the zoo, or choose to sleep over at the Old Elephant House in the heart of the zoo. Listen to the sounds of the animals as you drift off to sleep and enjoy a delicious breakfast upon your awakening.

Transport

Auckland Zoo is located just west of downtown Auckland on Motions Road. If you’re taking the bus, the closest stop is 8124 on Great North Road, opposite Motions Road. From here, it is a short walk down the road to the zoo.

If you’re driving, Auckland Zoo has two large car parks providing free off-street parking for cars, charter buses, and tour coaches.

Tickets

A day pass for an adult (15+) is $24, while a ticket for a child aged 4-14 years is $13.

Tickets for students and senior citizens cost $19, while family passes vary between $45 and $65, depending on the family makeup.

Alternatively, if you think you will become a regular, choose to purchase an annual pass membership instead.

Auckland Zoo hosts a variety of celebrations, from weddings, to corporate events or celebrations.

With multiple unique venues such as the historic Old Elephant House, the Cotton Top Tamarin Shelter, or the stunning Domes venue, you can choose to hire out the place for an unforgettable occasion.
