Auckland Accommodation

Otherwise known as ‘The City of Sails', Auckland is New Zealand’s biggest city, with nearly 1.7 million inhabitants - over a quarter of New Zealand’s entire population.

As a large, sprawling city, there are a plethora of different accommodation options designed to suit every type of traveller, whether you’re a backpacker on a budget, after a long-term stay, or keen for some five-star luxury.

We’ve hunted high and low and found just some of what we believe are the best accommodation facilities in Auckland.

Budget Accommodation:

Haka Lodge Auckland:

This “flashpacker” was ranked the World’s 4th Best Hostel in 2020, for good reason. With a variety of different rooms to choose from, from various dorms, to twin rooms and queen ensuites, the private curtains on the bunk beds, spacious lounge and kitchen with top of the line facilities, and central location make this hostel a budget accommodation that is well worth what you pay for.

Check out Haka Lodge Ponsonby, their sister hostel for some more upmarket backpacker accommodation.

Attic Backpackers:

This centrally located hostel offers spacious, fully equipped facilities with free hairdryers and straighteners, tour bookings, and an open deck area.

Perfect as a base to go and explore what this vibrant city has to offer, take your pick from a variety of dorm rooms (including a 14-bed dorm for those on a real budget), to a single or double private.

Middle-Range Accommodations:

Sebel Quay West Auckland:

This 4.5 star apartment-style hotel is perfect for someone looking for a convenient, central location with hotel services, while still having the independence that an apartment offers.

Just minutes away from the famous Viaduct Harbour and Downtown shopping precinct, this is an all-round ideal apartment stay.

Andelin Guesthouse:

This stunning Victorian Villa is located just a 10 minute walk from the stunning local beach in the seaside village of Devonport, and just 2 minutes away from the local shops, cafes, and ferry terminal to Auckland CBD.

With each private luxury room containing a massive ensuite, this beautifully decorated and welcoming guest house is the perfect stay for somewhere a bit different where you can meet some true locals.

Long Stays:

Quest Ponsonby:

These serviced apartments in the trendy and stylish suburb of Ponsonby are perfect for both short and long term stays, with your choice of either a studio or one or two bedroom apartments.

Close to the Auckland CBD and waterfront and the entertainment and shopping district, this is the perfect place to stay when you are looking for somewhere more long term.

Sandringham Lodge:

A great option for young graduates or couples who want to save some money, Sandringham Lodge is a real home away from home, with long term and short term motel-style accommodation in the heart of Auckland city.

Quiet, affordable, and with the perks of a communal kitchen to meet new people, Sandringham Lodge is a great place to stay within easy access of public transport.

Luxury Accommodation:
