MOTAT – Museum of Transport and Technology
Overview
MOTAT opened in 1964 and is the largest museum of transport, technology and social history in New Zealand, housing a number of outstanding collections. Within 40 acres, MOTAT will take you on an interactive journey of many of the technological achievements that have helped shape New Zealand. Major collections include aviation, road transport, trams, rail, steam, military, telecommunications, printing, library, and a Victorian Village.
There are also interactive experiences for the family such as interactive science area, Tactile Dome, and Mirror Maze. MOTAT is proud to have in its possession over 300,000 items covering everything from fire engines to World War 2 planes, steam trains to a fully functioning tram line. With state of the art touring exhibitions and special events all year round, there's always something new at MOTAT.
