Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake)

Lake Tikitapu, or Blue Lake is one of the closest lakes to Rotorua, and its crystal clear blue waters are popular with swimmers, water skiers (and donuts!) and keen boatmen. There is an easy walking track that circles the lake, emphasizing the beautiful beaches, lush native bush and exotic conifers of the amazing Whakarewarewa Forest. From here you can see panoramic views over Blue Lake and the neighbouring Green Lake, or Rotokakhi. The lake is surrounded by beaches and grassed areas that are a popular area to stop for a picnic, as there are BBQ sites and rubbish bins available. There is also ample parking available by the boat ramp located at the northern end of the lake, and swimming is safe at the broad pumice sand beach. Check out the waterslide, which is popular with children. On the south-western corner a look point provides stunning views over both Lakes, Tikitapu and Rotokakahi. There are public toilets available as well.
