Lake Ohau is a spectacular glacial lake located in the Mackenzie basin of New Zealand’s South Island. It is fed into by the Hopkins and Dobson rivers, which have their headwaters in the Southern Alp, and has its outflow in the Ohau River, which then itself feeds into the Waitaki River hydroelectric project. A truly stunning lake, Ohau is the smallest of roughly three parallel lakes running north south along the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin and the nearby ski field is located close to the south-western shore of the lake.
