Overview

Built in 1962, Dunedin airport caters for more than 700,000 passengers a year. By 2015 more than a million passengers will pass through its doors annually. The airport is well known for its Southern Man sculpture which sits outside the terminal building. Artist Sam Mahon welded together 50 bronze sections to create the sculpture, which was a gift from Speight’s Brewery. Stroking the horse’s nose is reputed to bring good luck. There are three duty free stores at Dunedin Airport which open two hours before departure. One is located in the main terminal building on Level 1, the second is in the departure area and the third is in the arrivals hall. Velluto Café & Bar takes centre stage on Level 1 in the departures area. Open from first to last flight daily, it offers a wide range of sweet and savoury snacks, salads and meals. The full beverage service includes tea infusions, coffees and alcoholic drinks. Espresso Plus is located downstairs. This is a grab-and-go café, with a full range of tempting snacks and hot drinks. Dunedin International Airport is located 30km south of Dunedin City. Simply follow State Highway 1 south until you reach the Allanton turn off. Turn right onto Centre Road passing over the Allanton Bridge. Follow the signs to the airport bearing right at Momona Garage.
