Alpine Fishing Guides has been in operation since 1996 and by Greg Dougherty and his wife Paula since 2002. We offer guided half, full and multi day float fishing or walk and wade trips for wild South Island rainbow and brown trout. Alpine Fishing Guides are one of the few companies to offer Drift or Float fishing trips in New Zealand that have all the legal requirements to do so. We are certified and current in work place and Outdoor First Aid, trained in River Rescue, and are fully insured. On our trips we carry a first aid kit as well as an emergency locator beacon. Alpine Fishing Guides have a 100% safety record and aim to keep it that way. We also have local council approval and hold New Zealand rafting qualifications as well as Department of Conservation concessions and are yearly audited by Maritime New Zealand. Greg has lived and fished in this beautiful area of New Zealand all his life and now is sharing it with people from all over the world.

Drift fishing on the gin clear waters of this beautiful part of the South Island has to be seen to be believed. On our float trips we can easily sight trout, pull up into an eddy and reel in a New Zealand brown or rainbow trout. We can fly fish from the raft as we drift as well as stopping frequently and wading from the shore. This gives us the best of both worlds.
