Explore Orana Wildlife Park

Orana Wildlife Park is one of Christchurch’s most treasured parks.

Attracting visitors from near and far, Orana Wildlife Park is internationally renowned for its involvement in zoo-based breeding programmes for endangered, exotic, and native species.

Go and support Orana’s conservation work and get up and personal with some of nature’s most stunning creatures (including the home of New Zealand’s only gorillas!)

Animals

Orana Wildlife Park hosts a range of animals from all around the world, from the African lions, rhinos, gorillas, and giraffes, to the native birds and animal species of Aotearoa.

With twelve animal presentations daily, you can choose which animal to learn more about, and, if you’re lucky, watch them be fed by one of the park rangers.

If you’re after something a little more exciting, opt for a world famous Lion Encounter and get up close and personal with the King of the Jungle.

Guided Tours

Orana Wildlife Park is different from a zoo - they want you to be able to interact with the animals (safely, of course!)

A range of guided tours are provided daily to enhance the visitor experience, with a complimentary Safari Shuttle providing an overview tour of the Park. The shuttle is driven by a wildlife expert who provides commentary whilst driving a circuit of the park, taking approximately 25 minutes to complete.

Alternatively, Orana Wildlife Park also offers daily walkabout tours, where visitors can meander around the park and follow the guides from each animal feed to the next.

Hours & Prices

Orana Wildlife Park is open 364 days a year (excluding Christmas Day) from 10:00am until 5:00 pm, with the last entrance at 4:00 pm.

An adult ticket (aged 15 years and over) costs $36.50, a child aged 5-14 years costs $9.50, and a senior citizen or student costs $29.50. Children under the age of 5 are free.

If you’re travelling as a family (2 adults and up to 3 children), it’s more economical to go with the concession ticket for $82.50.

Transport

There are currently no public bus routes that go to Orana Wildlife Park, so if you don’t have a car, the only option is Steve’s Shuttle, who provides door to door transport at an additional cost to the park entry.

Alternatively, if you’re driving, the park is located approximately 15 minutes drive north-west from Christchurch International Airport.
